Sericulture is the farming method by which Silk is still produced today - by growing, harvesting and boiling the cocoons of the mulberry silkworm larvae. Silk has been traded since the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220AD) and the Silk Routes - first characterised as such 1877 - have served as cross-cultural paths continuously for the last 2,000 years. By the early 19th C, domestic production of Cotton ate into the Silk Trade.
