Did you know?

Thousands of years of production in India did not translate into understanding for the medieval European world when first introduced to the fabric. Those days of innocent, small-scale trading were swept aside by the dominance of British-led industrialized manufacturer during and after the Industrial Revolution (the first Cotton Mill was built in 1733). Most cotton was grown on North American plantations, where slave labour was used until the end of the American Civil War in 1865. Between 1825 and 1870 raw cotton was Britain’s largest import.
