Did you know?

Southernhay was first noted in 1265. It follows the line of the great town ditch known as Crulditch – crull meaning “curly”, just outside the City walls that are still standing in parts today. Southernhay itself means simply “southern enclosure”. Even in the 13th century, Southernhay was a place to party; the Lammas Fair from sunset on August 1st to sunset the following day, was held on “the whole soyl or Plot of Southernhay”

All of our rooms are personally and individually designed for sunshine, sleeping and relaxing. Our beds are all handmade and bespoke designs sourced through And So To Bed with firm Vi-Spring mattresses; our baths and bathroom fittings solid and traditional Catchpole and Rye; our showers the fashionable and eco-aware raindance showers from Hansgrohe. Incidental furniture and mirrors are hand-picked antiques. Each room has a whopping Samsung 6000 TV (2011 model with internet connectivity and 3D) and cute Vita R2i radio, clock and docking stations (as used in the latest Savoy refit) as well as complimentary tea, coffee and smarties…
